So this is the first time I’m actually home for the summer. And I’ve been enjoying a lot of pool time. I ended up getting a couple inner tubes for the pool, including this mega one that used to part of a tractor. The hole is actually too big to lay across the tube comfortably so my goal now is to turn the thing into some sort of raft instead.

I got a large piece of canvas and put eyelets all around it. Then I wound rope around the the whole thing. I also added more air to (in theory) keep everything in place.
Then came the moment of truth…
Well…
The canvas slid around to the bottom.
Not exactly how I envisioned it.
So I guess it’s back to the old drawing board.
This is me contemplating new design modifications.
I’ll keep you posted.
LOL, I know what it’s like to not have something turn out as you pictured. Oh, well you’ll at least have fun trying again. That’s a nice pool.
I love the idea of a water hammock.
I think if you somehow connect the opposite sides via rope on the bottom of it, it won’t be able to slip down. Since the ropes on each side move in a separate direction, they will just pull on each other and keep the tarp from dropping.
Better idea. Put a tarp on the top AND the bottom, eyelit both, and then loop string from the matching top eyelit to the matching bottom eyelit.
I was thinking the same thing! No need to suggest it twice:o)
glad you are having genuine summer weather . . shite here
Jorge,
How about finding 1 or more smaller tubes to fit inside the tractor tube (under the canvas) and tie them in place? It may not be flat on top, but it would be better than the way it is now.
Hi Jorge,
Try this: Use two pieces of canvas, one on top, one on the bottom; and instead of looping the rope around the inner tube, alternate it on the outside of the inner tube – from top to bottom to top to bottom…so that the side of the inner tube looks like laced tennis shoes.
Bill
That looks so cool and like so much fun.
I’m sure it would have held up for Pip and Smidge.
Jorge- if you’re interested, I can send you some seeds from the garden- the newest spice we use is Lemon-pepper Catnip- SO yummy.
The canvas needs eyelets and then you can knot the rope before and after each eyelet to make it stay where you want it.
I hope you are soon floating and relaxing, but don’t forget your sunscreen!
I can’t tell you how much I enjoy that final photo. Great to see right away in the morning.
LOL…while it didn’t turn out quite like you were hoping…it was VERY entertaining
Just toss the dogs inside and let them float around that awesome pool. My chi starts shaking if I just turn a faucet on when I’m holding him, so he wouldn’t be very keen
You are so cute and funny. Thanks for the laugh. You always make our day. Well mostly mind my boyfriend just thinks your funny.
haha! Okay, that was really funny and something I can picture my husband doing.
I don’t have any ideas, but good luck!
i’m ready for the “followers of jorge” pool party!! i’m bring the cheese dip.
oops….meant, i’ll bring the cheese dip.
We had one of those tractor tubes, when I was growing up.
It looks like it should have worked.
my thought was just like one of the others – tie knots before and after the eyelets on the rope that way it can’t slide down the rope
Dang, so close! I’m looking forward to seeing what you come up with. There were some good ideas here in the comments as well!
haha
i think women call them eyelets; guys might want to find grommets!!
I don’t see this as a design failure. I see this as an exercise in winning. If there is one things I have learned in life, it is that awesome overrules everything.
Jajaja…at least you don´t finish at the bottom of the pool
And the invention seems comfortable…I’m intrigued by the next post
Parece confortable, que envidia, yo tambien quiero uso asi para relajarme en la pisicina.
Que tengas un buen verano.
if you don’t have anything to do on Labor Day Weekend, you can come to West, Texas.for Westfest…It’s a Czech festival that has been going on for over 35 years..some of the best food ever, lots of beer(their Czechs, what can I tell you) dancing, a Polka Mass, a Kolache 5,000..(race)..Kolache is a czech pastry..czech out westfest.com
And I bet they do the chicken dance, too. There aren’t many things I miss about Texas but you will never find a Washingtonian doing the chicken dance and we are all the poorer for it.
Nice that you are able to enjoy summer at home this year! You’ve worked hard and deserve some chill time by the pool! It looks lovely! Have fun with whatever you to to the raft/tire!
Oops, whatever you do!
Jorge, keep your day job. They’re not going to hire you to make life preserver rafts. Anyway, it looked fun. I bet Pip and Smidge could float. That is one big innertube. Anyway, your pool looks inviting. Glad you’re enjoying your summer. You derserve a good rest Jorge. Good for you to kick back and enjoy some time with your three lovely ladies.
Two words: Duct tape!
What if, instead of using a second canvas on the bottom to counter the tension, you used hollow pool noodles that you can run the rope through? That way if the top sags it’ll still have some support.
round one
summer project-1 jorge-0
FAIL lol good for the dogs!
Wow great idea! It’s hard to find a good floatable device. I got one at walmart for the lake. They forgot to mention that once you spent 28 minutes airing it up & walked half a mile to the beach that you’d look like an idiot trying to get on this huge black cinnamon roll looking thing called Pirate ____. you fill in the blanks because it’s crap. I should have just left it at the lake! Ugh
As Muskrat said put a tarp on the top and bottom and you’ll be just fine.
When a reporter asked, “How did it feel to fail 1,000 times?” Thomas Edison replied, “I didn’t fail 1,000 times. The light bulb was an invention with 1,000 steps.” How many steps to invent your raft?
ROUND ONE¡¡¡¡¡¡ FIGHT¡¡¡¡¡¡
Summer project 1- Jorge 0
jajajaja
You are too cute! Keep us posted!!
This has probably been mentioned, but I recommend wrapping the whole tube in the tarp.
Puppy versus crab: http://www.wimp.com/puppycrab/
Very sweet home/pool. Tube idea, not so much. :]
Sorry that Alcatraz got canceled, but happy that you are enjoying summer. I’m sure I’m not the only one that hopes this means you will blog more often too! Good theory for the tube, but I am thinking there needs to be some kind of frame. Or… Canvas BOTH sides & attach on inner side first & then outer side???
Rafts rarely work as well as we would want them to. Ask Michael and Jin. They’ll tell you.
Very funny comment!!!
Jorge,
You’ve been to Canada so do the Canadian thing and think of a Tim Hortons timbit, thats the way to go!
still looks a bit comfy.
I miss you. Just had to say it.
Hope you are having a great summer!
Hahaha Nice x) ♥
