I’ll be black

23 Jul

I’ve been going through stuff at my parents’ house. And I came across my old checkers game. It was a birthday gift from one of my classmates when I was in third grade (I think). You’ll notice that I lost one of the darker pieces. So to compensate I added a Millennium Falcon eraser.

Thats awesome man! I got lots of old board games in the attic. you should get it all fixed up, with all the peices and pass it on to your little one some day. be a kind of heirloom =D

Isn’t it great going through your things from the past? Love your ‘replacement’ checker. 😉

There are 2 sides Walt – one is light, and one is Millenium Falcon…

    Very cool Jorge.

Wow, Jorge! That is awesome. It is ironic that it goes along with the entire LOST theme–and even your character. Yes, Hurley would definitely use a Star Wars eraser he found among the wreckage as a subby checker. (Not to be confused with Chubby Checker–sorry I couldn’t resist.)

Great find. Everyone will always love Hugo!

    Take care!~Moonchime

    That is absolutely priceless.

Hey Jorge, long time since I’ve been on your blog. Still not a fan of this one, Blogger seemed better. Anyway, I got an idea for your checker pieces. I think you should engrave your signature on all that’s left and send them to some lucky fans. That would rock, bud. Keep in touch man, I don’t have Blogger anymore either, but I visit GJB on facebook all the time.

    God Bless

🙂 Did you find some old photos too? One day in the future, you have to show us some of them. 🙂

You be white, and I’ll be…. THE DARK SIDE.

  10. Janelle July 23, 2010 at 11:04 am #

Wow! A Star Wars fan even back then! That’s pretty sweet; thanks for sharing.

Thanks for sharing, Jorge. 3rd grade… The Millenium Falcon eraser as checker tickled me. I think the only Star Wars stuff I still have is the sdtk album (as in LP) and a little Han Solo disguised as storm trooper action figure…I think I was like 5 when Star Wars came out…and my favorite part of the soundtrack was the Mos Eisley Cantina theme…

Hmmm…23 original pieces. And today is 23rd…That number looks familiar to me…

    Hugs from Chile!!!

I used to collect the Star Wars bubble gum cards. Amassed about three hundred of them at one point. I would have gone bananas for those erasers…:)

Reminds me of Norman Rockwell, but I think the Millenium Falcon is much more fun than checkers anyway!

  17. Erin July 23, 2010 at 1:48 pm #

That’s fantastic! I definitely get a Rockwell vibe too. Looks like an awesome set!

Being twenty years old for the debut of the first Star Wars film, I had no idea what that picture on your eraser represented.

For those not in the know…. here is everything you never wanted to know about the Millenium Falcon…

I just checked ebay and they have a blue Millennium Falcon eraser going for $14.99. That one is in the acutal shape of the Falcon, 3D and all. This is very cool! Collector’s item! I had a C3P0 model. 🙂 (And I’m a chick!)

  22. Elaine Cyr July 23, 2010 at 3:30 pm #

    love it!!!

  23. Henry Wasserman July 23, 2010 at 3:43 pm #

The Norman Rockwell dog in the picture definitely tried to take a bite out of the upper left hand corner of the box.

I’ve too have compensated for many a missing checker over the years or Draughts as we knew them.

The Millenium Falcon is awesomely cool – on par iconically with the Bat Mobile. We spent a long weekend building a 3D MF puzzle we got for Christmas. It was going well until Saturday night when we started drinking and then had to take it all apart and do it right on Sunday.

  26. Maria July 23, 2010 at 5:28 pm #

Oh my goodness… that is adorable.

Isn’t it fun to rediscover favorite old toys? I have a few things, little kiddles, Dancerina, my hot-pink haired troll and cabbage patch dolls that I saved and it sure brings back memories when I get them out. Pretty cool…save it and when you have little ones, you can play it with them. I’ve got some Furbies I still play with and my son’s talking Alf guy 🙂

Geez the regular chess pieces look like Crokinole (croquinole) pieces. Was the repacment piece an eraser?

  29. Hollie July 23, 2010 at 5:57 pm #

    God I love you!

Always good to clean “house” and take a look back before you move forward

  31. John's Secret Identity July 23, 2010 at 7:59 pm #

Kinda reminds me of the scene in Amelie where she returns a man’s childhood stash of “treasures” to him and so many memories come flooding back to him.

Also makes me wonder what might still be stashed away at my parents’ house. Haven’t been there in about a decade.

  32. dr mum July 24, 2010 at 3:14 am #

But the problem is . . . I always get quite weepy when getting out old stuff like this.

  33. devonellington July 24, 2010 at 6:31 am #

Kind of like going on a treasure hunt of memories, isn’t it?

  34. Danielle July 24, 2010 at 7:40 am #

    Clean up that fingernail!

  36. Jules July 24, 2010 at 3:11 pm #

What an awesome checkers set! I think the new, updated piece just adds to the charm. 🙂

  37. Brad July 24, 2010 at 4:25 pm #

Love the box top! That alone begs a story.

  38. Jessica July 26, 2010 at 11:40 am #

an eraser seem like the best choice….personally I would have gone with my grape scented rainbow one

  39. Tiffany Noélli July 26, 2010 at 7:08 pm #

Luke’s landspeeder was the coolest thing going (that is, if you didn’t have the death star with the operational trash compacter.
