Holy moly! I’ve always wondered if people play the “numbers” — I bet they do! Waaah! I miss Hurley! There will never be another LOST!

  2. Lauren January 5, 2011 at 10:46 am #

Not for me!! I got a random ticket that ironically had the numbers that hit. I won $150!!! I may just use it to buy the LOST DVD Boxed set. It may be a sign?

    • Jen January 5, 2011 at 10:52 pm #

Ha! What a great idea for your winnings!

  3. Comedic Author With Rat Training Tendencies January 5, 2011 at 11:08 am #

ROFLMAO.. I have an urge to buy a chicken restaurant.

  4. marciferous January 5, 2011 at 11:14 am #

Why did this not even occur to me? Oh well, at least my track record of never hitting a single number is still safe.

  5. gillylapetitedu213 January 5, 2011 at 11:17 am #

    Miss you Hurley !
    Miss Lost …

  6. eB January 5, 2011 at 11:18 am #

    Oh Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

  7. Lisa January 5, 2011 at 11:20 am #

I guess I should have done the number picking instead of leaving it up to my boy friend. I would have at least a small amount to play with.

  8. Janelle January 5, 2011 at 11:29 am #

Mega Millions had y out of the 6 List numbers the same, in the right order!

  9. Kyra January 5, 2011 at 12:35 pm #

I totally almost played them! No, really. Then I thought “you can’t play these numbers every time beause that just makes you a total nerd.” …Did you hear also that 25,000 people who played the actual LOST numbers ended up getting over $100 each?! Uh oh. That’s a lot of cursed money to keep track of.

  10. gaila15 January 5, 2011 at 12:36 pm #

๐Ÿ˜€ May the numbers be with you. Congrats to all that is 150.00 richer!

  11. Catherine January 5, 2011 at 12:51 pm #

Sorry it caused a fuss, saw Beth’s comment in the TIMES piece…but my two friends and I wanted to pick numbers so I said let’s use the LOST numbers. Worked for us….but are the numbers really cursed? Hurley ended up running the Island and eventually got Libby….none of which would have happened if Hurley hadn’t used those numbers!

    • Teresa Avalon January 6, 2011 at 12:22 am #

Hey, spoiler alert! Not that anyone who follows this blog is likely to not have watched every single episode of Lost, like three times!

      • michelle January 11, 2011 at 5:58 pm #

seriously – you’re calling spoiler alert about a show that ended almost a year ago?

  12. Ann January 5, 2011 at 12:53 pm #

    A little close for comfort.

  13. cheryl January 5, 2011 at 12:59 pm #

I was so, so close to playing the numbers yesterday and then got too lazy to go out in the snow. I’m kicking myself now. I could have been $150 richer.

  14. Janet January 5, 2011 at 1:11 pm #

    Wow, you guys. Congrats!

  15. jackie January 5, 2011 at 1:20 pm #

I used them once and none of them showed up..I only did that once

  16. Jenn January 5, 2011 at 1:32 pm #

DUDE. My hubby played “the” numbers. We’re now $150 richer. Thanksfully we’re not planning on flying anywhere soon. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  17. Bethany January 5, 2011 at 1:46 pm #

I have been saying I should have played the numbers for a long time. My husband could not wait to point out that I failed to play them and missed out on $150 bucks.

  18. Lurkertype January 5, 2011 at 1:53 pm #

When they announced the numbers on the news, I literally LOL and then thought “I can’t wait to read Jorge’s blog!”

I love that there are still so many people playing The Numbers. Maybe they’ll only have $150 worth of bad luck.

  19. Stephanie January 5, 2011 at 2:31 pm #

I played them! I played Hurley’s numbers, so I was one of the lucky ones to walk away with $150!!! I couldn’t believe my eyes! =D

  20. Jeanie January 5, 2011 at 2:56 pm #

Hahahaha, oh man I am so glad I didn’t play those numbers I WOULD NEVER SET FOOT ON A PLANE AGAIN.

  21. Summertime January 5, 2011 at 3:42 pm #

I have played the Lost #s in two different lotteries for about a year. I will take my $$, thank you!
Its only a curse if you believe it is. ๐Ÿ˜‰
    Love and miss you guys!!!!

    • Joni January 6, 2011 at 11:36 am #

I play them regularly. With the Megaplier, I won $600! (Too bad I owe family members more than that!) BUT, it was extremely satisfying to see 4 out of the 6 hit. Now the question is… do I continue to play them? And btw, I will consider the numbers cursed when I start believing that everything else on Lost is REAL. LOL!

  22. Stacy Disarrayed January 5, 2011 at 4:20 pm #

Oh I know!!! I heard them announce the first three and about freaked!!!
It was kinda awesome though. ๐Ÿ™‚

  23. Drew January 5, 2011 at 4:23 pm #

Was it really a curse in the end? Now there are 9000+ new keepers of the island.

  24. Gary January 5, 2011 at 4:25 pm #

Glad I did not play them. Played a bunch of easy picks on Friday and only won $3.

  25. Ebbhead January 5, 2011 at 4:37 pm #

I won $7 with them cuz I had 23 in the Mega slot. Damn. But better than a dirty stick in the eye.

  26. Joseph Ajami January 5, 2011 at 5:00 pm #

    looool crazyyyyy

  27. Noy2222 January 5, 2011 at 5:01 pm #

    The numbers are bad, statistically.
If 4, 8, 15, 16, 23, 42 WOULD come up, the jackpot would be split between all ticket holders, making in this case $41,859 for each of them, reducing the value of each ticket drastically.
Consecutive numbers would give similar results.
In other words, when (quite stupidly) playing the lottery, choose randomly.

  28. LSE January 5, 2011 at 5:39 pm #

    I saw that! Utterly hilarious.

  29. Ted January 5, 2011 at 5:54 pm #

I’m using my $118 dollars to build a hatch in my backyard.

  30. Giselle January 5, 2011 at 6:10 pm #

This was the best way to start off the morning. News that the numbers came up in the lottery. Now my mom has been redeemed for always playing the numbers in the lottery. On another note, is this some kind of promo for a new LOST spin-off???!! ๐Ÿ™‚

  31. Stephanie January 5, 2011 at 6:35 pm #

Am I a total dork that I have been playing the LOST numbers for the last 5 years in the Florida Lottery? I guess so, considering I still break out in tears if I even think about rewatching the LOST finale. It was just so perfect, I don’t want to believe it’s over.

But total props to the people who won $150!! It was great seeing Hurley all over the news this morning ๐Ÿ™‚

  32. pamelalovescharlie January 5, 2011 at 6:45 pm #

Well that answers my question…I’ve always wondered if people who buy lottery tickets played Hugo’s numbers ๐Ÿ™‚ Jorge, if you had bought a ticket with those numbers, it would have been a Twilight Zone moment! Ever been tempted?

  33. Becky January 5, 2011 at 6:55 pm #

LOL!!! I’m so glad I didn’t play them. Love you Jorge!

  34. Becca January 5, 2011 at 7:28 pm #

As long as they never get on a plane, fly out of LAX, buy a chicken franchise, buy their mom a new house they should be OK!

Can’t wait for your new show, Jorge!

  35. Jenna January 5, 2011 at 7:44 pm #

The only thing better than winning has been rejoicing with the other 9,000 who are having the same reaction as I am.

  36. Irish Girl January 5, 2011 at 8:01 pm #

Ok, wow…I totally missed all this today. That’ll teach me not to check in online.

  37. Alice Thompson January 5, 2011 at 8:06 pm #

Quick pick selected them! Won $24 Dollars : )
    Too Much Fun!

  38. leendadll January 5, 2011 at 8:14 pm #

One of my claims to “fame” is knowing the woman who won $266M last year. I’m happy for her husband’s share but, as for her, there isn’t a less deserving person in the world.

  39. Suzie Q. Wacvet January 5, 2011 at 8:34 pm #

    Thanks for that laugh!!!!

  40. Matt Bishop January 5, 2011 at 8:44 pm #

I played the lottery for the first time in my life with the Lost numbers and won the $150. If I go missing on an island, we will know if the numbers were cursed.

  41. KJ January 5, 2011 at 8:47 pm #

I too about freaked when I heard the numbers on the news this morning. Started laughing at how ridiculous it is. We miss you Jorge!

  42. Stevefromtopsfield January 5, 2011 at 8:56 pm #

I won $150 by playing the numbers. First time I’ve ever played them. I got the picture of the ticket as proof! Loved your character on LOST and look forward to future projects.

  43. Jen F January 5, 2011 at 8:58 pm #

    Love it!

    Missing LOST…

  44. Diane January 5, 2011 at 9:00 pm #

Husband saw this on the news and we had a laugh about it. Perfect post to accompany it. We miss Lost!

  45. patlee January 5, 2011 at 9:59 pm #

just got a call from my sister to let me know about the lost numbers and I am one of the “lucky” lost winners,if only all the numbers matched but I will take my $150 and be happy.
    thanks lost and Hurley
p.s. we need a lost movie soon
    I miss the show

  46. Erin January 5, 2011 at 10:28 pm #

I thought of you instantly when I heard. I couldn’t wait to read what you had to say. Then I was like CRAP. Should’ve listened to my mom and played the numbers.

  47. Maru January 5, 2011 at 10:47 pm #

  48. tracy January 5, 2011 at 11:18 pm #

I’d say those numbers were pretty lucky for you. Hit show, residuals for life, continued publicity when they win etc…

  49. Oreorie January 6, 2011 at 12:28 am #

    I agree with you! ^^

  50. hughster1 January 6, 2011 at 2:09 am #

Just two days before we did a sketch in our comedy show in Hollywood about Hurley bumping into Barack Obama during the President’s Hawaiian vacation!!

  51. Claudia January 6, 2011 at 3:04 am #

When those numbers came out my jaw dropped! I do play them but not all the time. I was REALLY hoping you would post about them!
    Too cool………………….WAY TOO COOL…………

  52. Robert Lee January 6, 2011 at 4:50 am #

I played them and It bought my wife a really nice pair of Ray Bans yesterday!
I played the Lost Numbers and won! Check it out : http://ialwayshaveaplan.wordpress.com/2011/01/05/i-was-buying-a-frozen-burrito-and-thought-i-should-play-the-lottery/

  53. -dan January 6, 2011 at 5:17 am #

hey! when does the new season start? ๐Ÿ˜€

  54. Tyson Garst January 6, 2011 at 7:31 am #

    OH NO!!!!
    I played 5,9,16,17,24,43
    What was I thinking!
That is my ‘one off’ ways anyway ๐Ÿ˜€

Actually, I had to immediately email my fellow LOST super nerd that 4 of the 6 numbers hit – I can only imagine how many fans were freaking out at the same time.

A dude in Omaha (car dealer of Gerber Auto) hit $250k – he missed the mega ball as his ticket had 41 – DOH!!!! Otherwise he would have had a three-way – HAH!

  55. alonelyargonaut January 6, 2011 at 7:54 am #

I’m chalking Arkansasapocalypse (or Aflockalypse as I’ve heard it called elsewhere) to their tempting an angry god by playing these numbers..

  56. beema January 6, 2011 at 8:23 am #

hehehe I saw this in the news yesterday and I was like WHOAH! I should really play the lottery… I could use $150. But yeah, the Numbers are bad.

  57. Fraulein N January 6, 2011 at 9:37 am #

Hee! On the one hand it’d be awesome, but then yeah, you’d be looking over your shoulder for THE REST OF YOUR LIFE.

  58. Peppermint Twist January 6, 2011 at 9:53 am #

LOL! Great to find your new blog, Jorge!!! Heard about the LOSTian Lottery situation and your blog entry on it, and had to come check out your new blog (finally!). By the way, (non-related item): my wonderful dog, Hurley, whom I named after your character on LOST and who, as I reported to you at the time (a year ago, when he was a tiny pup), I was told was a Chihuahua mix of some sort, turns out not to have any Chihuahua in him at all, and is instead an Italian Greyhound-Border Collie Mix (we did a DNA test–there’s some other stuff in there, too, but those are the main “ingredients’). He really has the personality of the IG, which is VERY Hurley-like: sooooooooo sweet, sensitive, shy and submissive, yet fiesty when he wants to be, fun and smarter than anyone else of any species in any given room. He really takes after the character he was named after. I still love the character of Hugo “Hurley” Reyes and you, Jorge! (As for LOST, let’s not go there, I’m still recovering from the last ten minutes or so and the fact that I’m still not sure what the BLEEP happened but I’m pretty sure and I don’t like what I’m pretty sure of, nor the fact that I’m not totally sure, as the time for mystery is done and, as Hurley put it once, “Now, I want some friggin’ answers!” But moving along, as the ambiguity of the finale is not the fault of the actors, so no point ranting about it to you… Just wanted to say: 1. LOL re your comment on the numbers, 2. Yay, I found your new blog, and 3. I am so glad I named my dog after you, as he has turned out to be a total Hurley! Oh–and 4. I look forward to seeing you in future projects. I saw your “How I Met Your Mother” episode and it was a fun romp.

  59. Peppermint Twist January 6, 2011 at 9:53 am #

P.S. DUH–forgot to add in my previous comment that this is “Lockefan” from the ‘lage, in case there was any doubt. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  60. pamelalovescharlie January 6, 2011 at 10:06 am #

Lol…it must have been a slow news day yesterday. This story was on the front page of our Toledo newspaper, The Blade this morning…but they didn’t say Jorge Garcia, just said a character from Lost and gave the Hugo “Hurley” Reyes lottery win/bad luck storyline ๐Ÿ™‚

  61. peperina January 6, 2011 at 11:09 am #

    o la loteria estรก maldita?

  62. vospik January 6, 2011 at 11:43 am #

Oh come on! If EVERY number had come out, just like on the show, then maybe I’d be running in the streets, ripping my clothes off!!! Well, maybe I will pull my socks off right now & run around in circles-its too cold here for anything more!

P.S., if the money is cursed & nobody wants it, please forward it to me. ๐Ÿ™‚

  63. Ouige January 6, 2011 at 11:46 am #

In 2005 the numbers 4 8 15 16 23 and 24 were picked in the Irish national lottery I think that’s even spookier cause all the right digits are there, only the last ones are the wrong way around!

  64. evan January 6, 2011 at 12:31 pm #

You think it’s over man? This just gives them 150 more tries to play the numbers. THEN what happens???????

  65. Josh January 6, 2011 at 12:53 pm #

This was my first time ever playing the Lotto, and I had this strange urge to play the LOST numbers. We were only two numbers off from $350,000,000! But hey, $150 is nice. Thanks Hurley! (:

  66. MOZ January 6, 2011 at 1:32 pm #

Ha! If I’d been watching them pull the numbers live, my mind would’ve been blown after those first three! Like: “You’ve GOT to be kidding me!”

  67. Jenna Dickes-Deleo January 6, 2011 at 3:14 pm #

This is reeally off topic but I’ve been wanting to find a way to show you a drawing I did of Hurley. There’s no contact email (understandable of course) so I figure you might see it here – http://jennadeleo.com/gallery/art/webhurley.jpg
    I miss Lost =(

  68. Suzie January 6, 2011 at 6:18 pm #

I wouldn’t take any flights from Sydney… Just saying! ๐Ÿ™‚ A friend at work won $148 from hitting 4 numbers!

  69. CHRIS January 6, 2011 at 6:58 pm #

    I WON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  70. Kristi January 6, 2011 at 7:14 pm #

Yeah, when I heard that some of “The Numbers” were part of the winning Mega Millions, I instantly thought- “WHO would play those numbers??? Don’t they know any better?” LOL

  71. Janet January 6, 2011 at 8:03 pm #

I must have missed something. What is the significance of the numbers? Meaning…how did the creators of LOST come up with those particular numbers?
Birds fall from the sky…mass fish kills…winning Lotto tickets…Spooky, kinda. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  72. Kathy Myers January 7, 2011 at 6:55 am #

  73. Kathy Myers January 7, 2011 at 6:56 am #

    Awesome drawing, Jenna.

  74. BabyBird January 7, 2011 at 8:25 am #

I’ve always been curious but WAY too scared to actually do it! I’ve noticed one other time, in Canada, where the numbers were quite close to the Lost numbers…

  75. Jack8r-LAR January 7, 2011 at 2:03 pm #

Dude, I’m watching TV for 60 years and believe LOST was the greatest show of all time. LOST was a game changer and the next day rebroadcast on ABC.com followed with Hulu.com has changed viewing habits forever. Dude, you were good.

  76. Peppermint Twist January 7, 2011 at 2:07 pm #

“LENNY: You used those numbers to play the lottery?

    HURLEY: Uh, yeah.

LENNY: Well, you shouldn’t have done that. You’ve opened the box.

    HURLEY: I what?

LENNY: Ah, you shouldn’t have used those numbers.

    HURLEY: Why not?

LENNY: It doesn’t stop. You’ve got to get away from those numbers. You’ve got to get far, far away.”

  77. Peppermint Twist January 7, 2011 at 2:10 pm #

P.S. The above was quoted from LOST, “Numbers”.

    • Suzie January 7, 2011 at 7:17 pm #

      I soooooo miss Lost!

  78. Josh January 8, 2011 at 6:34 am #

UPDATE: I thought I had won only $150 from the LOST numbers, but I went to redeem my ticket, and I forgot I had chosen the Megaplier – which was 4!!! I won $600!!!!

  79. James Hernandez January 8, 2011 at 9:57 pm #

Yes, and they only won $150! If you play the lottery 52 times and only win once, and $150 at that, then you are losing money.

  80. veronica the veewitch January 17, 2011 at 7:44 pm #

Since only 4 of the 6 numbers came out does that mean the winners money will be only 2/3 as cursed as Hurley’s ? ‘-) xox to you Jorge hug !!!

  81. Jeff January 21, 2011 at 10:13 am #

Kimmel responds to the numbers: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R2lBuTi6PrU

  82. Chris February 8, 2011 at 6:24 am #

A friend of mine was able to look it up and found that something like 3000 people play the Lost numbers. If they had all hit you and 2999 other people would have to split the money. I think that came out to less then $500,000 per person.

  83. Mallory June 27, 2011 at 12:55 pm #

I must admit i’ve tried those numbers =P “Lost” was so amazing I actually got nervous about winning! Lol but no winnings, I guess that’s good luck? ::shrugs::
