En route to Coos Bay

14 Aug

We came upon this bridge with Golden Bear Statues full of people looking over the edge. Later we learned that we were crossing over the Klamuth River and they were all checking out the whale.

The coolest part about the motel room at Coos Bay

was the bottle opener on the wallthat could be reached from the toilet.

Or the tub. Making it our most “resort-like” stay of the trip.

Looks like you’ll be passing through Portland soon. Let me know if you need any tips/advice when you’re in town. My top recommendations: Tugboat Brewing, Two Tarts Bakery, and the Fifty Licks ice cream cart! Also, the ‘Le Cycliste” beer at Deschutes Brewing!

That is great! Those kooky Canadians! Did they leave a piece of Canadian Bacon on your pillow instead of a mint.

Oregonians, not Canadians! Coos Bay is in southern Oregon! You might get salmon on your pillow if you are really really lucky and pay extra.

Looks like you are still up in my home area, I have crossed that bridge many times, love seeing the bears. Here is a little history on the bridge http://www.shannontech.com/ParkVision/Redwood/Redwood13.html

Hey welcome to Canada, eh! I live in the Fraser Valley, which is about 45 mins out of Vancouver, BC. Hopefully us Canucks are treating you right – you tell ’em they better! I realize this is highly unlikely but if you’d like a fabulous dinner one night (I cook like a mofo), our home is open to yourself and B! (we’re not creepy or weird) (but my husband really liked you on Lost) (so did I) (but seriously we’re not creepy or weird) (well, we ARE, but not in a stalker kind of way) (all of these parentheses are making me LOOK stalkery, aren’t they??) (WE’RE NOT!!) 😉

Did you write on the comment card that a cup or something attached beneath the opener to catch the bottle caps would really “class up the joint”?

Thanks, as always, for taking us along on your journey!

Lo del abridor en la puerta del baño no tiene precio. Por lo visto es el mejor lugar para montar una fiesta. A lo mejor lo pongo en mi casa…

    Un saludo.

Jorge, you and Beth are finding the WILDEST things. I swear, it is only you guys that find a bottle opener that can be reached from the toilet. What a riot.

Ah, we went over the bridge with all the people too! We didn’t know there was a whale until that night on the news (we stayed in Crescent City). I wish we would have stopped.

    (Bottle opener is cool.)

oh my goodness! that is way too funny
I never would have known that was a bottle opener! I thought it was a badly replaced door lock.

Wow that must be an old school motel! Many of our motels in Canada used to have (beer) openers in the bathroom and snowmobile parking. Great party memories!
    You’ll love it up here.

Hi Jorge, hope you enjoy your time here in Beautiful British Columbia! You should check out Vancouver Island. I’m out of the loop and haven’t really watched much TV at all since Lost finished but I’m guessing you moved to Vancouver for a TV show. Is it pathetic that I’m still very bitter about how Lost ended…?

Our newspaper reported today that the mama whale just died…her baby swam back out to sea on July 23. I wonder why she didn’t go with her baby😦

  28. James Hernandez August 17, 2011 at 4:22 pm #

    Jorge,

What gives – you should be drinking good stout
Canadian Beer! Just a hint but Backwoods Brewing produces a nice BC brew.

    I thought it was something for closing or locking the door, but I see it is something funnier🙂 Does champoo open with it there :D?? I had one in a shelves in my living but we take it off and I miss it a lot ;_;
