Thank you iTunes Season Pass

25 Jun

You have made these days without a DVR a lot more bearable. It’s been hard moving and traveling knowing that I was missing episodes of Friday Night Lights now that it’s back on the air.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: hands down my favorite show on TV.

Thanks to you I’ve also been able to catch up on the new season of Deadliest Catch which I have also been missing.

I was able to have my own “marathon” of ten episodes on a ten-hour flight from London to LA and it was awesome. But there was one drawback. While I did get to enjoy the episodes completely commercial-free, it had no Bon Jovi theme song. And Deadliest Catch is just not the same without it.

“I’m a cowboy…”

I gotta try those. I mean, it’s not like I have Lost anymore. 😦

I did love Friday Night Lights, the movie so thanks! I will definitely give these a shot.

  2. casinoskunk June 25, 2010 at 1:09 pm #

Have a traveling buddy sing the song for you.

  3. Eddie M June 25, 2010 at 1:12 pm #

I can’t get enough of Friday Night Lights. I’ve always been into Deadliest Catch, but it just seems different this season. Cast changes, music, no Phil… What do you think?

  4. MsAmanda June 25, 2010 at 1:16 pm #

People who don’t watch FNL are so missing out! The show is ten times better than the movie. Good drama, great characters and real storylines. I’m going to miss it when its gone.

  5. Manda June 25, 2010 at 1:28 pm #

Friday Night Lights is awesome! We also love SouthLAnd. Amazing show. Hope you’re settling in to your new home ok!

  6. Lissie June 25, 2010 at 1:35 pm #

FNL is so good! I finally got my dad into this summer after years of badgering.

My best friend and I love Deadliest Catch. It’s become part of our lives by introducing us to “SECURE THE POTS!” Any time we watch, one of us will yell that and throw ourselves over the other. Sometimes, we even have creatively punny spinoffs, for example…http://www.flickr.com/photos/missdirected/2476102577/

  8. yellowdog granny June 25, 2010 at 1:53 pm #

    sad about phil…

    • derekbrink June 26, 2010 at 12:56 pm #

Me too…and Jake’s going to have guilt issues for the rest of his life. (I won’t say more in case Jorge’s not there yet.) But yeah… RIP Phil.

  9. mrcelofan June 25, 2010 at 2:00 pm #

  10. I have that song in my head days after the show ends… and I woke up singing it once, says hubby. Yikes!! I still have a hard time watching Phil- he reminds me of my dad.

I’m glad you can watch your favorite shows with iTunes season pass while you’re moving and while you’re traveling, Jorge!
I plan on renting The Deadliest Catch and have rented all the seasons that have become available so far. I use Netflix and love it. Don’t have highspeed internet, so that’s what I have to resort to so I can see great shows not on broadcast tv, since I also don’t have cable or satellite.
I miss Captain Phil even though I haven’t seen the show since season 4. Waiting on Season 5. It’s in my Saved section of my rental queue. Just added Season 6 to that section, also.
Here’s hoping Captain Phil is smiling down on the show.
Love your blog, Jorge. But not as much as you 😉

  12. devonellington June 25, 2010 at 2:17 pm #

It’s the details that make a difference, isn’t it? 😉

  13. deltadawn June 25, 2010 at 2:20 pm #

You’re absolutely right about FNL… Absolutely the best show on television – no offense to Lost!
I can’t understand why it never got an Emmy. You’ll see Zach Gilford absolutely deserves one for the Son, that aired a couple of weeks back. I was astonished by his performance…
    Enjoy!

  14. raie June 25, 2010 at 2:45 pm #

Oh I’ve been meaning to check out Friday Night Lights, thanks for the reminder :]

  15. Anne June 25, 2010 at 3:00 pm #

You mean best TV show now that LOST is off the air, right? 😉

  16. monkeyface June 25, 2010 at 4:43 pm #

completely agree @ deadliest catch. love it. RIP Phil Harris

  17. Amber June 25, 2010 at 5:07 pm #

This season of Deadliest Catch has been kinda’ heartbreaking. Things are really changing. Edgar’s back problems and him talking about leaving. The Hilstrands talking about retirement. Jake’s addiction and Phil’s passing. I have no idea what to expect next season, if there even is a next season!

  18. Beth June 25, 2010 at 6:12 pm #

I LOVE Friday Night Lights. I have a friend who lives near where they film and she got to be an extra on the show this year – she got to meet Kyle Chandler, whom I have loved since he was on Early Edition. I miss Tyra and Lyla this year (though Lyla did make a short appearance a couple of weeks ago…) I have toyed with the idea of switching to Direct TV so I can watch the shows as they air earlier, but I guess I’ll stick with watching them on NBC.

  19. Lisa June 25, 2010 at 7:12 pm #

I’m really missing Lost. Jorge, have you seen the wonderful YouTube tribute by njusticeleague
called “I’ll Never Be Lost Again”?

  20. Megan Berlinger June 25, 2010 at 7:31 pm #

Friday Night Lights is just plain good. Love the relationship between Coach Eric and wife Tami. And who doesn’t want Tim Riggins and Matt Saracen to catch a break? Best representation of high school life I’ve seen on television.

  21. jmgasper June 25, 2010 at 8:32 pm #

I don’t watch either show, but I do watch Wipeout during the summer, which is *awesome*. I have been waiting for a celebrity episode for awhile. It would be spectacular to see good-natured celebrities like yourself run through the Wipeout course. That, Psych, and Top Gear are definitely summer favorites.

  22. Annie June 25, 2010 at 8:39 pm #

Sorry, bud, but those shows don’t come close to LOST! Going through bad withdrawls…:{…bummed that Flashforward is not coming back…at least able to get a charlie/penny fix!

  23. Heather June 25, 2010 at 8:54 pm #

That’s a lot of crabs! I don’t watch either show but that’s cool you had your own marathon to keep busy on such a long flight! Welcome Home Jorge and Beth! I hope the new place is starting to feel like home for you. Hope to see more photos of your travels!

  24. Jeremy June 25, 2010 at 9:55 pm #

Picturing your marathon, with you wearing the big headphones like on Oceanic 815 — awesome!!

  25. Ian June 25, 2010 at 11:27 pm #

Taylor Kitsch is an amazing actor.

  27. Galkafisher June 26, 2010 at 6:32 am #

nothing can replace lost nothing! damn it. what i’m supposed to do now? The epilogue on dvd is what keeps me alive

  28. Ann June 26, 2010 at 7:10 am #

I’m not a big fan of either of those shows but I can’t listen to that Bon Jovi song without thinking of this music video my daughter and her friends made when they were home for a visit last summer. Now THIS is amateur theater for you! But they had a ball doing it.

  29. Tia June 26, 2010 at 7:30 am #

I totally agree about the theme song to Deadliest Catch. We DVR it but always watch the beginning. It is the best part!

  30. Melinda June 26, 2010 at 7:58 am #

I love FNL! I only watched the first episode because I loved Homefront and Kyle Chandler, and it immediately drew me in. I’m also a fan of Deadliest Catch, but have been unable to watch this season; I think it’s the whole Phil saga that’s keeping me away. I don’t think that I can go through it.

  31. Erin June 26, 2010 at 8:53 am #

Friday Night Lights is awesome! That’s the one show we’re hooked on around here, now that LOST is over. My friend got us into it a couple years ago. Really great television!

  32. Danielle June 26, 2010 at 11:44 am #

FNL is one of the most underrated TV shows right now. I wish more people watched it because it’s so damn good.

Also, we just moved into our new house, and put up our Lost Live poster, and I chose the one that had Hurley sitting against the Dharma van. Makes me happy whenever I see it. 🙂

  33. marcmedia June 26, 2010 at 12:04 pm #

Never really got into Friday Night Lights. But Deadliest Catch is awesome! Just like Hawaii 5.0 I never miss the beginning as to enjoy the opening credits and songs.

10 hour flight?! That must have been brutal…

  34. Cari June 26, 2010 at 12:39 pm #

Concur on your statement about FNL being the best show on TV right now. I tell anyone who will listen that if they aren’t watching it they are missing out. Glad to see you’re promoting it too!

  35. mighty morfin June 26, 2010 at 12:54 pm #

Dude, you are so right! Deadliest Catch needs the song to start it off!! “I’m wanted…..dead or alive!!!!” This season has been totally sad. Last Tuesday was the episode that showed Cpt. Phil’s stroke. Very sad. Do you watch the show, “After the Catch”? It’s with the captains and some of the crews talking about the season.

  36. barb June 26, 2010 at 2:14 pm #

love Friday Night Lights! have an episode dvr-ed (verb?!?) from last night!!

  37. Bobbers June 26, 2010 at 2:30 pm #

FNL is brilliant. It’s consistently top notch and I think the only thing they got wrong was the Landry “mistake” which seemed way out of character with the show. Other than that I love it. The Taylor’s are excellent actors too (not that the others aren’t but they’re on another level).

  38. ZIA June 26, 2010 at 5:26 pm #

ohh amo deadliest catch es uno de mis programas favoritos, de hecho estaba a punto de ver un episodio pero me tome unos minutos para leer tu blog, no entendía por que aparecía la fotografía de DC pensé que era publicidad …coincidencias

  39. chris June 26, 2010 at 8:33 pm #

Jorge, B-22, i saw that damned Dawn/Joe Purdy commercial today and teared up, swear-to-God, teared up.

  40. Jason June 26, 2010 at 11:27 pm #

Deadliest Catch is the only time I will ever sing-along to Bon Jovi.

  41. Jennifer June 27, 2010 at 6:31 am #

“Deadliest Catch” ftw! Give the new FX show “Justified” a try ~ completely awesome and renewed for a second season. You’ll have to catch it online. Seriously, don’t miss it!

  42. Lea June 27, 2010 at 9:48 am #

Guilty here…of not watching either. I think the band nerd in me refrained from watching FNL…and Deadliest Catch–I will have to check out!

    Have a tremendous day, Jorge!

  43. Irish Girl June 27, 2010 at 10:11 am #

Not a watcher of FNL, but I love Deadliest Catch. So sad about Phil; I guess this Tuesday is the show where he passes on. I feel bad for his sons, especially Jake. He’ll have some guilt issues to deal with for a long time.

Have fun with your world travels, Jorge. Take pictures!

  44. jen June 27, 2010 at 11:25 am #

I’ve been slightly in love with Kyle Chandler since ‘Homefront’ – but I need bigger incentives to watch a show about…football? (I’m sure that’s an oversimplification, but that’s really all I know about the show.) Never even heard of ‘Deadliest Catch’. I might be a little out of it. I haven’t had cable of any kind for years. My shows have all been online or downloaded (Lost at 8am the next day with coffee). I like to think that the difference is that I don’t just randomly flip channels…I have to actively seek out things to watch.
I have an opening now, I suppose…with no ‘Lost’…but I don’t think either of those will be it.
Sorry, I babble. Oh, and I love that Cynthia Watros is on ‘House’ now. 🙂
    *sigh*
I’m just gonna start ‘Lost’ from the beginning again.

  45. Chrissy June 27, 2010 at 7:46 pm #

You know what’s strange? Since Lost has been over, the show I turn to is Top Gear on BBC. The 2 shows are absolutely nothing alike. But Top Gear is addicting and hilarious and filled with amazing cars. I highly suggest it if you haven’t seen it!

  46. Stephanie June 28, 2010 at 5:19 am #

I hands down agree about Friday Night Lights. It’s such a strong show, it’s a shame that the past couple of seasons have aired on NBC MONTHS after airing on Direct tv. I heard that this coming season (season 5) will be the last one. I don’t know what I’m going to do once it’s gone.

  47. fibrowitch June 28, 2010 at 7:15 am #

If you down load the song, and set up your down loads so that you play the song just before each episode. Not sure how to do it on I tunes but there must be a way.

How are you doing after your loss? Have you started thinking of getting another pet?

  48. Cindy June 28, 2010 at 5:29 pm #

    Did you see this??

    “Hurley…can I just hug you?”

  49. Heather June 28, 2010 at 7:43 pm #

You should come visit us in Austin & see if you can get a spot on FNL. 😉
    Austin is pretty awesome, y’know.

  50. Hawaiiyogini June 28, 2010 at 9:14 pm #

I didn’t know you liked FNL. Zach Gilford from the show just had dinner at my sister’s, he is fishing down there in Belize. Oh yeah, and Mary Alice from ace of cakes is staying with her right now they are buddies. She kept asking me to invite you but I never got a chance. Maybe if you have some time off you guys can come vacation and eat cake? The site for the restaurant and resort is http://www.azulbelize.com (you can leave that out I’m not trying to plug it) Hawaii misses you

    • Hawaiiyogini June 28, 2010 at 10:16 pm #

I forget to mention you and Beth would be our guests, comp food drinks and private villa, and lots of dog therapy. We have more than 12 dogs lounging around the beach, here are pictures. http://bit.ly/3nLRxg Mary and Dave say Hi.

  51. Cat June 29, 2010 at 7:04 am #

@Melinda. So, glad someone else remembers Homefront. I LOVED that show! And, every time I mention it to someone no one ever knows what I’m talking about. I’m a big Kyle Chandler fan because of Homefront and Early Edition, but I have only watched the first episode of Friday Night Lights. I’ve never been a big fan of sports related shows or movies and it was the football theme that turned me off even before I gave the show a chance. But, so many people have been recommending this show, so I think I will have to look past it and give it a go!

As far as the Deadliest Catch goes, my daughter loves this show! But, I only stick around for the Bon Jovi tune and then I leave the room! lol!

  52. marta June 29, 2010 at 9:44 am #

“Happy town” is fine too…the 1º serie that hook me after Lost ‘o’

  53. Fred June 29, 2010 at 12:07 pm #

Just make sure that you know what it’ll cost you to download something off of iTunes when travelling overseas. I downloaded an episode of Lost to watch on the plane coming back from a brief trip to Canada last year (using my Verizon EVDO card), and later received a $4000 bill from Verizon. Stupidly, I didn’t realize that my Verizon plan didn’t cover roaming in Canada.

Hola from San Pedro, Jorge! Hope you & Beth are doing well! Come see us in Baltimore soon. XOXO Mary Alice

The Deadliest Catch is my favorite reality TV show, and one of my top 5 favs overall. You are right though. The intro with ‘Dead or Alive’ gets your head in the right place to experience the show.

  57. Tena June 30, 2010 at 9:47 pm #

Just been thinking about you guys. Missing Lost, wondering how you are.

Loved the tribute!!! So miss the show and love watching the early episodes and still enjoy each one!!! I can’t wait to watch the show with my kids someday when they are old enough to understand it! LOST will be forever with us!!

  60. Gina Michaelson July 1, 2010 at 4:53 pm #

If you get a chance, make sure to check out “How it Should Have Ended” for Lost… if you google “How it should Have Ended,” you’ll get to see the one for Lost, where Hurley is offered a hug from Lapidus!

I saw it and thought of your blog 😀

  61. Sylvia July 1, 2010 at 9:14 pm #

Jorge and LOST fans, have you seen this?

(In case it doesn’t embed properly, How It Should Have Ended made an alternate LOST ending, on YouTube.)

  62. Irma July 2, 2010 at 5:25 pm #

After “Lost” ended, my 14 year old son and I felt kind of (crap, horrible pun coming) lost without a show we could watch together.

Because he was too young at the beginning of your series for me to allow him to watch it, we have over the last year DEVOURED the first five seasons of “Lost” on DVD, culminating with us actually watching Season Six together.

Now we are watching “Supernatural” together on DVD and loving every moment of it….. I will never turn my back on normal, one-episode-a-week-TV, but there’s a lot to be said about the freedom and excitement of glutting yourself on multiple episodes at one time. (Plus I never would have allowed my son to look at “Supernatural” five years ago, either!)

Long live the DVD…or the BluRay…or the PVR… or the TiVo…

  63. Katie July 4, 2010 at 3:02 am #

Dude – where you in London? I was just in London! I’ve been trying to have a Jorge sighting for years… Darn it! Another missed opportunity…

  64. gaila15 July 5, 2010 at 12:00 pm #

Where are you? Hope you and Beth are well.
Started watching Fringe. Not Lost but a replacement.

Love love love Friday Night Lights. Best show ever. After Lost of course. Although I miss Tyra being on it. There’s not as much scandal anymore without her!

  71. Ashley September 5, 2010 at 8:18 pm #

Agreed- FNL is my favorite show on the air as well. LOVE IT

  72. Sara September 29, 2010 at 2:26 am #

I know what you mean about Deadliest Catch. My husband and I just moved to Dublin, Ireland (from California) and our show doesn’t have the Bon Jovi opener. I have to mute the tv and blast the song from my computer just to get the right feeling for the show.
